We respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional owners of this land on which we are meeting – the Algnith people. We also acknowledge the contributions of First Nations peoples to the education of all children and people in our country Australia, in which we all live and share together.
Dear families and of friends of St Joseph’s,
Just a reminder, on Thursday morning the of 11th May we will be celebrating how special our Mums are by holding our annual St Joseph’s Mother’s Day Celebration of fun, food and laughter.
This year's theme is 'Mum, You Are My Sunshine', we invite everyone to wear a touch of yellow for the special occasion. We will start with a prayer, then heartfelt entertainment from Prep and Year 1. This will be followed by morning tea served while you join in our craft activities and games. Our Senior Hub Students will be waiters and they will ensure Mum's are well catered for. Take a photo at our photo booth and maybe win one of the three door prizes. We will also be having some fun party games, so it would be wise to brush up on your music knowledge.
Mums can choose from three fun craft activities:
- Sip and Paint with Mrs Pearce
- Decorate a clay Flower Jewellery Dish
- Create a sunflower Tote Bag
Attendance and selection can be made via parent slip that will be sent out early next week.
We look forward to to spending the morning with you.
Sacraments 2023
This term some students in Year 3-6 will commence the Sacrament Preparation Program to allow them to full prepare for receiving Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation. These sessions will allow the students to better understand the three Sacraments and how they are encounters with God. The first sessions will commence on Tuesday 23rd May from 2:30pm-3:30pm for a series of 9 weeks.
There will also be opportunities for Baptism to take place when Father Dariusz visits throughout the year. This is for children of any age although it is a requirement that one parent be baptised as a Catholic.
If you would like more information about how your child can participate in any of the Sacraments, please contact Michelle Gear mgear@cns.catholic.edu.au

St Joseph School Values
As part of our feast day celebrations, some students in Years 4, 5 and 6 participated in an Iconography Workshop with Nadine Grant from Cairns Education Services and myself. The purpose of the workshops was to co create an icon which represents Humility, one of our school values.
The students began with recapping scripture and experiences which show humility. They reflected in the birth of Jesus, Joseph’s willingness to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt, the actions of Pope Francis and the Washing of Disciples feet at the Last Supper. The students were able to define humility as putting others needs before their own, doing something without a fuss, seeing everyone as equal and not seeing themselves as above others. From there, the students drew what humility looks like at St Joseph’s. The students identified the cross, stable where Jesus was born, staircase and a First Nations star as symbols of humility. They then started the process of bringing these symbols together to form one icon which represents Humility at St Joseph’s. We look forward to updating and sharing the final product with the school community.

The focus for MTSSE this week is ‘Being Responsible by completing tasks’. This focus is important for our learning goals at St Joseph’s. Students need to complete work set by the classroom teacher to feel successful in their learning. Tasks that are set are intentional and directly relate to the Australian Curriculum.
