Sacraments 2023

This term some students in Year 3-6 will commence the Sacrament Preparation Program to allow them to full prepare for receiving Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation. These sessions will allow the students to better understand the three Sacraments and how they are encounters with God. The first sessions will commence on Tuesday 23rd May from 2:30pm-3:30pm for a series of 9 weeks.

There will also be opportunities for Baptism to take place when Father Dariusz visits throughout the year. This is for children of any age although it is a requirement that one parent be baptised as a Catholic.

If you would like more information about how your child can participate in any of the Sacraments, please contact Michelle Gear mgear@cns.catholic.edu.au

St Joseph School Values

As part of our feast day celebrations, some students in Years 4, 5 and 6 participated in an Iconography Workshop with Nadine Grant from Cairns Education Services and myself. The purpose of the workshops was to co create an icon which represents Humility, one of our school values.

The students began with recapping scripture and experiences which show humility. They reflected in the birth of Jesus, Joseph’s willingness to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt, the actions of Pope Francis and the Washing of Disciples feet at the Last Supper. The students were able to define humility as putting others needs before their own, doing something without a fuss, seeing everyone as equal and not seeing themselves as above others. From there, the students drew what humility looks like at St Joseph’s. The students identified the cross, stable where Jesus was born, staircase and a First Nations star as symbols of humility. They then started the process of bringing these symbols together to form one icon which represents Humility at St Joseph’s. We look forward to updating and sharing the final product with the school community.
