Prayer
This weeks commemoration of All Souls’ confronts us with the reality that our time on this earth is limited. God gives us this life in order to discover the good and embrace the holy to realise the promise of God’s Kingdom in our lives. This week on Tuesday, we were invited to rediscover the meaning of our lives by remembering and giving thanks for those we loved and cared for and whose love and care for us mirrored the love of God for us.
May we continue to honour and remember with gratitude our deceased relatives and friends this All Souls’ Day. May our memories of them accompany us on our journey to God, let their example inspire us, to “attend well and faithfully to worthy things.”
Police Protection Visits
On Tuesday, the students from Prep-6 were addressed by officers from the Weipa Police Station to teach the students about how they can keep safe in the community. The students were taught about the role of the Police in keeping children safe, five people who they can talk/report to, what is classified as an emergency, keeping our private body parts safe, how to respond when someone grabs/attacks you (scream, kick, hit, scratch, bite, do whatever you need to do to get away from that person). Thank you to Emma Wallis and Warren Flegg for support the student in navigating how to stay safe and protected.
Josh Arnold is Coming
An exciting week ahead as Josh Arnold from Small Town Culture visits for St Joseph’s Road and Bike Safety Week. Throughout the week, Josh will be working with all classes to develop a road safety song featuring the St Joseph’s students. It is through the video that we hope to deliver a clear message about bike and road safety. We have also been working with Weipa Police to determine the needs of the area so that the message of Road and Bike Safety is relevant for the Weipa Community.
Josh will also be working with vocalists to record Australian artist Christine Anu’s song Island Christmas. St Joseph's have fortunately been selected to have a small group of children perform a verse of the song.
Students will be selected on Tuesday for vocals and recording. Parents will be notified if their child has been asked to sing or be filmed. Some of the filming will be taking place after school on the following days.
Tuesday 3pm-3:30pm / Island Christmas filming, 5:30pm-6pm Island Christmas filming
Wednesday 11:10-3:00pm Road Safety Song Filming around Weipa.
Remembrance Day Liturgy- Please send in your images
A gentle reminder that we will be a Remembrance Day Liturgy November 11 at 11am. As part of this Liturgy, we would like to show our respect and gratitude for War Veterans. If you have any images of family members who have served in war or conflict, could you please send them to Michelle Gear mgear@cns.catholic.edu.au along with the family name to be part of a presentation. Images will need to be received by Tuesday afternoon.
Road and Bike Safety Week Competition
Road safety is everyone's responsibility and during St Joseph's Road Safety Week, we are asking students to Sign up for Road Safety.
Students can show their support by creating and sharing a message of road safety. All they need to do is think of a message they want to share and then put it on a sign or create one using the templates attached. These road safety messages can be completed in class or at home. The PCYC have kindly donated a prize for first place in this competition. The prize is a bike.
All entries need to be handed into the front office no later than 3pm on Thursday 11th November. Judging will take place Friday morning with the winner of the competition announced at our Starry Starry Night event. Only 1 entry per student will be accepted.
If you have any questions, please contact either Amanda Rowe or Michelle Gear
St Joseph's School Board Formation Meeting
Just a reminder that on Monday 15th November at 6.30pm, we will be holding an information evening for all in the school community who are interested in becoming a school board member. As such, we are calling on nominations to fill these positions. Interested members of our community need to write a short ‘expression of interest’ letter that outlines the nominee’s skill set and what they might bring to this group. These nominations will then be presented to the Board Establishment Committee which will be made up of the Principal, Parish Priest, Director of School Effectiveness and CES Parent Engagement consultant.

Dear Families,
My name is Stephanie Neil and I moved to Weipa with my family at the beginning of Term 4, 2021. Originally from Brisbane, I have spent the last 12 years teaching (and learning) in kindergarten and school settings in Central Queensland. Creating a happy and safe classroom environment so that students learn with confidence, creativity and focus is a priority in my teaching practice. I am very excited to be part of the wonderful learning community at St Joseph's Parish School and look forward to meeting you soon.
