News from the Principal - Megan Pearce
Dear Families of St Joseph’s Parish School,
As every day passes the closer, we get to things returning to normal.
Thank you to all parents and staff for your ongoing support in this extraordinary time. It has been a challenge for us all, and yet there have also been positives. Many families have spoken of the way relationships with their children have deepened through having to slow down the busyness of life. People have adjusted their priorities in terms of what is really important, and all of us have learned to appreciate so many things that we previously took for granted. We have been forced to depend more upon each other at school, in our region, nationally and internationally, and people everywhere have stepped up.
As a staff we’ve been working collectively to ensure there is minimum impact on our students, staff and the wider community. We have implemented necessary changes whilst striving to promote a culture of being calm and providing our students with as much normality as possible.
Thank you to all our families who continue to juggle home life and remote learning. We have received lots of positive feedback on the program we are delivering and will continue to make adjustments to cater for students and family life.
I also wish to allay any fears you may have of your child or children falling behind or being disadvantaged by the enforced conditions. Along with all children in Australia who have faced the same interruption to learning, this will only be a minor hiccup in their educational journey. They have the benefit of many years of quality schooling and self-learning ahead. I have attached an article from Professor John Hattie that addresses these issues.
As most of our teachers are parents themselves, we understand the concern you may have when you want nothing but the best for your child. Patience and effective organisational practices with home learning will be the key over the next few weeks. Many parents have found the Daily Schedule a helpful tool to guide learning for the day.
We are very mindful that everyone is experiencing these times in different ways. We may all be in the same boat, but we are definitely experiencing different storms. As a community we must be mindful of these differences and all pull together to support one another.
I would like to express my gratitude for all the encouraging emails that have been sent to staff. Our staff have been extremely busy delivering the remote learning program as well as other demands. They appreciate the wonderful support and gratitude you have shown them.
We are truly blessed with such an amazing team of teachers, school officers, administration staff, support services, and cleaners. Thanks to each and every one of our amazing team, and their families, for their efforts. They have been amazing and continue to make us all so very proud.
Finally, I would just like to thank everyone for your continued positivity in adapting to this ever-changing situation. We continue to experience different speed bumps along the way, but in doing so we find new and different ways to navigate them. We look forward to when our school community can be together again in education and friendship. am sure that we will all come out the other side with a renewed sense of what we value in life.
Take care and continue to look after each other.
COVID-19 Update
The Question we have all been wanting a clear answer to is… when can all students return to school? The latest information from Annastacia Palaszczuk MP was announced on Sunday however I am waiting for confirmation from CES to announce that we are following the same timeline. Will send email confirming return to school plan asap.
St Joseph Feast Day
On Friday, we celebrated the Feast Day of St Joseph the Worker, we were reminded that he is a role model for the way in which we are challenged to live out our faith. St Joseph is one of our school’s patrons with which we identify. His life was that of an ordinary workman, yet his ability to see and communicate the presence of God made him extraordinary.
St Joseph, by birth, belonged to the family of King David, but he was a simple carpenter whose love and faith taught Jesus important lessons about dedicating one’s life and work to the service of God and others. Whatever our occupation, we have the opportunity to honour God through our work. Whether we work with hand tools or with a computer, St Joseph has much to teach us about using our talents and working to the best of our ability.
Mother’s Day
Whilst we will not hold our annual Mother’s Day Liturgy, we would like to celebrate the special Mums in our lives in a video post on Friday.
A very happy and blessed Mother’s Day to our mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures in our lives. We are very fortunate to have amazing mothers in our community that do so much for so many people. On behalf of the school, Happy Mother’s Day next Sunday and I hope your family spoils you, showers you with gifts and make you feel extra special on this day.
Take care and God Bless,
Megan
On Friday the student’s immersed themselves in re-meeting St Joseph as part of the Feast Day for St Joseph the Worker. The Student activities ranged from learning more about St Joseph the man, the historical figure, his relationship with God and the lessons we can learn from his actions. The student’s activities then took them on a journey to gain a deeper understanding of why he was such a wonderful man and to apply this knowledge to what St Joseph would look and act like if he was around today.
Please find below just some of the amazing responses students have created and I will continue to share some of their works over the next few newsletters. I hope you enjoy….
May St Joseph smile on you
Meg.
