God of love and liberty,
We bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy, which was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave their lives in time of war.
We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain, but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come.
That the liberty, truth and justice which they sought to preserve may be seen and known in all the nations upon earth.
This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
News from the Principal - Megan Pearce
Dear Parents and Friends of St Joseph’s,
Welcome back to Term Two, albeit in a very different format to what we are used to.
We would like to thank everyone in the St Joseph’s community for your positive attitude and flexibility given these challenging times.
We are very proud of how the community has adapted so quickly and made the necessary changes to ensure continuity of learning for our students. One week into our remote learning program and our staff are so impressed with the overall engagement of the students. The highlight of the day for our teachers is the live Google Meet sessions with their classes.
Well done to our teachers for re-contextualising the curriculum into a remote learning model, and well done to our parents for preparing and providing the conditions and environment conducive to learning. Well done to our School Officers who are doing such a great job supporting the children of essential workers who are accessing the curriculum online from school.
Although I am sure the coming weeks will hold many challenges for our school community as we navigate our way through the online learning journey together. Rest assured though, that we are all in this together, and there won't be any problems that we won't be able to solve together. So please don't hesitate to share your experiences both positive and negative with us, so that we can support each other and work together in the best interests of our kids.
God Bless,
Megan
Continuing Learning Program
Please note that we are now planning for our next stage of remote learning during week 2. The next stage involves us moving towards catering for individual student needs. This will be in the form of more structured support for students in intervention programs, more targeted teaching through Google Meet. Days and times will be communicated to you once this structure is finalised.
Parenting Ideas During COVID-19
In a time of great change and uncertainty, kids need things to be normal. Anxiety levels are growing throughout Australian communities, and for many children, it is the uncertainty that breeds anxiety. Routines and normality are some of the best weapons at our disposal when supporting children with anxiety. When talking with your children about the impact of coronavirus, it is important that you focus primarily on what will remain the same in their lives, rather than what will be different and what will change.
Michael Grose, one of Australia’s leading parenting writers and speakers has written an excellent article (see link below) explaining how you can support the emotional needs of your children and teenagers during this unprecedented time. He discusses the impact it has and will have on their lives and how to address the anxieties of the young people you may be living with. He does a lovely job of providing guidance on how to have some of the more tricky conversations and how we can use this experience to see past our own needs and look for ways to assist others.
I encourage you all to grab yourself a cup of tea, find a comfy couch and sit down and have a read.
