Year 3 News

Welcome back to Term 3! This is my first week teaching at St. Joseph’s and I have enjoyed getting to know the Year 3 class.

Year 3 has started a new class novel, “The Faraway Tree” by Enid Blyton which has captured students’ interest. This novel is filled with many mysterious characters, which the students have enjoyed reading about.

In Writing, we have learned about the purpose and structure of procedural texts. In the coming weeks, we will explore the type of language used in procedures.

In Maths, we have looked at repeated addition, multiplication and units of measurement. This week, Year 3 has enjoyed learning about length, capacity and mass.

In Science, students have learned about the Earth’s rotation and orbit and how this causes night and day. Year 3 has a keen interest in the solar system and have been engaged in a research task on the Planets.

In Geography, students read the book “Are We There Yet?” by Alison Lester and labelled a map of Australia with the States and Capital Cities.

Just some reminders:

  • Homework is sent home on Monday and collected on a Friday.
  • Overdue library books need to be returned.
  • Students’ handwriting books will now be used in class and should be brought into school.

I look forward to more quality weeks of learning with Year 3.

Regards,

Miss Trudy Sinnamon
