Year 3 News
Welcome back to Term 2! I am so looking forward to working with the Year 3 students on another productive and busy term. The students have made a great start to the term and it has been wonderful meeting with parents to discuss your child’s learning from Term 1 and how they will be supported moving into Term 2 during parent teacher interviews these first few weeks.
It was fantastic to see many Year 3 students at the Dawn Service on Sunday morning and participating in the march to remember those who fought for our country. We have been exploring ANZAC day and what that means towards the end of Term 1 and the first week of Term 2. We were fortunate enough to have our questions answered by Liam Hogan from the Australian Defence Force about why we march on ANZAC day, why poppies are used to remember the fallen, and when did we first begin recognising the ANZACS.
We have a lot on this term and a lot of new topics to be covered.
English: narratives.
Math: addition and subtraction, fractions, 3D shapes, data and graphs, money, symmetry, and angles.
Religion: Jesus the Messiah.
Science: melting moments – composition and behaviour of substances.
Technology: what’s for lunch? Food and fibre in modern and traditional societies.
Art: dance – celebrating dance (performance to be held in Week 9).
HASS: Civics and Citizenship – participating in my community.

In Week 1, students were sent home a parent letter with the new dates of health and PE, new changes to homework, a calendar with upcoming dates for the term and information about AFL beginning this term. If you did not receive this, please let me know and I will send one home with your child.
Health and PE: Thursdays – sports uniform required.
AFL: Fridays 30/4, 7/5, 28/5, 4/6, 18/5 – sports shoes required, not sports uniform.
Library: Tuesday – please bring in library bags. Borrowed books cannot go home unless bags are bought to school. One book will be selected for home reading and one to read at school.
Homework: due Monday, goes home Tuesday.
Mother’s Day: Please email a photo of yourself and your child/ren before Wednesday 5th May, to be included in a slideshow for students in the class.
