Year 4- Class News

Firstly, I just want to again congratulate the year four class for the fantastic job they did presenting assembly last week. I am so proud of each and everyone one of those students who were nervous but got up anyway and spoke superb! I also want to thank the families that were able to come along and support their children. I know it made the students try even harder knowing that you were there watching them. We don’t present assembly again until term 3 but I’ll let you know in advance next time for those who would like to come.

We have started working on information reports in english which will also give the students a chance to consolidate their knowledge of plants as their final information report will be based on a plant. The students have been working on improving fluency four times a week in the classroom and also at home. The students will work through their fluency folders from the first page, only completing a page a week. Once I test the students, they can proceed with practising the next page of words. Any questions about this can be emailed to me.

In maths I have been busy trying to complete the students MAI tests which will be used to inform my maths teaching over the year. It will test the students counting, place value, addition/subtraction, and multiplication/division skills. I am very impressed with what the students already know and the resilience they have been showing throughout the tests. The results of these tests will be discussed among other things at parent teacher interviews.

We have been learning about different types of prayer in the morning and after lunch times. In the mornings we have been looking at prayers of intercession which is a prayer you do for someone else. After lunch we have been calming down by praying with color which is when we color a picture and think of people in our lives that need praying for.

Lastly, our attendance in year four is dropping further with only 63% of students attending more than 95%. Attendance is key in improving student outcomes and while I understand that sometimes there are personal family events that students are absent for but for everything else, your child should be at school. If possible, please let the office and myself know as far in advance as possible that your child will be absent.
