Welcome School Mass
It was so lovely to see so many parents join us for our first school mass of 2020. The kids sang beautifully in the church. Thanks to all of our year 6 helpers who did their job to perfection and assisted with ensuring that our mass ran smoothly. It was wonderful to have Fr Dariusz visit our classes and catch up with all of our students.
St Joseph’s Charism
As the year goes on we are going to learn a little more about one of our school’s patrons, St Joseph. As a staff we have been sharing a beautiful book by Michael O’Neill McGrath titled “Go to Joseph”. This has been a great way to help us to understand him on a deeper level.
I’d like to share some of the following extracts from this book with you.
‘We know very little about Joseph. He is only briefly mentioned in two of the Gospels. For a long time in Church history he was largely ignored and is portrayed merely as a chauffeur for Mary and Jesus, leading around a donkey, never uttering a word. So how is it that this silent working man for such a long time overlooked, become one of the most beloved saints of all time?’
The book further encapsulates Joseph by stating:
“Joseph has nothing to say;
He just listens;
And quietly does what he has to do,
Which was to take care of business.”
News from the Parish
Mass times for the St Joseph Church Service are Saturday Vigil starts at 6:00pm and Sunday morning service at 8:30am. Everyone is also welcome to join in the praying of the Rosary on Wednesday night.
Curriculum News
Auslan
We are excited to be introducing the teaching of AUSLAN language to the whole school this year. The AUSLAN language is an Australian Curriculum Learning Area and aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable students to:
- communicate in Auslan
- understand language, culture and learning and their relationship, and thereby develop an intercultural capability in communication
- understand themselves as communicators
- develop a knowledge and an understanding of the diversity of Deaf experience and the nature of identity.
There are two strands to learning Auslan, communicating and understanding. As we are in an introductory phase of Auslan all students will be taught and assessed on the Foundation to Year 2 Achievement Standard on their academic report card.
Parent Volunteer introduction session
If you are interested in volunteering at School, in any capacity, you will be required to undertake a short induction session. There will be two sessions being run in Week 3, Thursday 13th of February at 3pm and Friday 14th of February at 8am. Could you please notify the office if you are interested in attending one of these sessions.
May St. Joseph smile on you,
Meg Newell
