YEAR 1
Week 10 Newsletter
As we reach the end of Term 2, it's been wonderful to reflect on all the fantastic learning that has taken place in our classroom.
Maths:
We explored both 2D and 3D shapes, sorting and classifying them by their features such as edges, vertices, and faces. The students enjoyed using hands-on activities to deepen their understanding.
English:
We focused on writing 5-star super sentences using capital letters, punctuation, and adjectives to add detail. Students also adapted the story Possum Goes to School by writing their own creative page about an animal visiting the park.
Technology:
A highlight was designing and building our own arks. Students considered how to make them float and provide shelter, ensuring the animals were protected from the flood, wind, and rain—just like in the story of Noah's Ark.
HASS:
We learnt about natural, managed, and constructed features in Weipa and discussed how we can help care for these environments in our everyday lives.
Religion:
Through stories such as Noah’s Ark and Moses parting the Red Sea, students discovered that God is always present with us, especially during times of challenge.
Health:
We explored healthy eating and learnt how food packaging is designed to persuade us to buy products. Students became more aware of marketing techniques and how to make healthier choices.
Science:
We investigated how the sky and landscapes change over time. The students learned about the phases of the moon, how they affect the tides, types of clouds, and how these can help us predict the weather.
Athletics Carnival:
Our Athletics Carnival was a huge success! It was wonderful to see all students giving their best effort, cheering on their classmates, and showing great sportsmanship and teamwork. Their encouragement and support for one another made it a day to remember.
As this term comes to an end, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all families for your support and partnership. I will be going on maternity leave early next term and Miss Fielding will be the Year 1 teacher from the beginning of next term. It has been a joy to teach your children, and I wish them all the best for the rest of the year.
Warm regards,
Amanda Peters
