Year 4
What a great start to Year 4!
These first five weeks have been focused on the school values and our patron Saint Joseph. The students identified the Saint Joseph’s qualities, and his importance in the life of Jesus. Check out our incredible art works that capture his nature.
After these first two weeks, we began our Religion unit. In this unit, we investigate the Bible. We are learning about how the Bible is organised (Book, Chapter, Verse) and the difference testaments. The next part of this unit is to identify the different text types in the Bible! Stay tuned!
In Maths, we have identified odd and even numbers up to four and even, five-digit numbers. Students used different strategies to determine whether a number was odd or even (for example, identifying the final digit in the number, or finding out if a number was divisible by 2 without a remainder). We then investigated patterns when adding and subtracting odd and even numbers (for example, even + even = even).
This term, our Science, Design and Technology, and HASS (Geography) units are connected with a focus on sustainability. In Science, we are investigating the science behind erosion and weathering and the impacts it has on our environment. This links to The Dirty Water Project (Design and Technology) where the students are designing and creating a water filtration system and in Geography, students will identify different resources (renewable and non-renewable) and how to take care of them.
Finally, our English unit has produced some excellent work including ocean habitat posters and research maps about a specific ocean animals in preparation for writing our warning tale! What an amazing effort so far!
