Year 2 class news.
Year 2 News.
This fortnight in English, Year Two have been busy learning all about the parts of speech that make up a sentence. Please ask us what a verb and noun are! We have been learning regular spelling patterns and are becoming more confident when applying these to dictation passages read to us.
In Maths we are learning lots of strategies for adding two-digit numbers. This fortnight we focused on using a number line to count on in tens and ones. We also practised adding the ones together then adding the tens. To help us quickly calculate mental Maths problems we have been doing timed quizzes. It is great to see the students’ growing confidence.
This week there are two homework tasks to watch out for. The Design Technologies and Geography homework is titled “Facts about my favourite things”. The task asks that you find out where regularly used clothing, food and toys come from and find their location on the map provided.
For Science a “My Mixtures” sheet has been sent home which requires you to record any simple mixtures you create at home such as a cup of tea or pancakes. These tasks will support your child’s knowledge and understanding, assisting their classroom learning and getting them ready for assessment. Please continue to work on these tasks over the next fortnight and return to school when complete.
Our target is for students to attend school 95% of the time or more. Currently Year Two has 40% of the class meeting that target. Let’s aim for a better attendance rate next fortnight!
