Year 4 News..
In Maths we have been consolidating and building on concepts from earlier in the year. We can read five digit numbers in lots of different ways by expanding and partitioning these numbers. We have also looked at independent events which aren’t influenced by other events and dependant events which are. For example, we know that it doesn’t matter if you get heads the first time you flip a coin because the next flip has an even chance of being heads of tails. We know that an example of a dependant event is that you fuel the car before you can drive it.
In English, the students each chose a plant to research and created an information report. In the beginning we had lots of double ups on plants but the students showed lots of resilience and were able to select another plant. The students were engaged in their reports and the children enjoyed teaching me new facts about their plants. Our next writing piece is about procedure writing, so stay tuned to hear about the exciting adventures we get up to.
In Religion, we have started exploring the New Testament. We are learning to find Bible passages by the book name, chapter and verse both in a physical bible and also through the Bible app on the computer.
Lastly, I just want to add about how proud I am of the students and what we have achieved so far in the year. Every week is busy with something on or someone visiting and the students have been very flexible with these changes. The students continue to surprise me with their work ethic and what they are capable of producing when they put their mind to it. It brings me great joy to be stopped by other staff members to be told how well the grade four class works and behaves.
