Year 5 & 6
Hi Families!
Welcome back to another term in the Senior Learning Hub. This term we will be starting a new unit of work on how we can survive our ever-changing world. This disaster-based science unit will have students investigating the question of “How can we survive our world?”
It’s an exciting topic to explore and students are looking forward to demonstrating their wealth of knowledge through a ‘Shark Tank’ like presentation.
In Science Year 5 have started their exploration of Space and how the solar system was formed. We began an experiment using water, vinegar, dishing liquid and some glitter too. Ask your child about what they observed throughout the experiment!
Year 6 have started their discovery of natural disasters, beginning with Earth and its features. They used some playdough looking at the layers of the earth and some cookies were used too.
In English, we have been reviewing comprehension skills and during our inferencing practice students developed a quick sketch of the Arc, a place in the future where humans reside. This place exists in the book we will be studying this term titled ‘The List’. Students listened to a paragraph description of the Arc read aloud and used this to guide them, adding their own interpretations to it as well. We have very differing results, but we definitely have some very creative illustrators in The Senior Learning hub. After this students shared their sketches with their peers.
