Dear Parents and Guardians, 

Welcome to the Year 1 Newsletter and what an amazing 2 weeks we have shared together and the  children have worked really hard during this time with lessons and the end of Term Assessment. We were very excited to celebrate NAIDOC this week and have been busy practicing ball games in preparation for the Athletics Carnival. 

This week we welcomed back Ms. Lillian Miller - Consultant First Nations Education from Cairns Catholic Education to our School. Lillian spent some time in the year teaching us all about this year's theme “For Our Elders”, thank you for visiting Year 1.  

We began NAIDOC Week with a Smoking Ceremony where we assembled before walking out through the smoke and to the Church to celebrate a whole School Mass with our School Community and Father Dariusz. What a wonderful celebration it was.  

On Tuesday, the Kindy/ Prep/ Year 1 and Year 5 students completed NAIDOC activities on the Basketball Court  and on Thursday we participated in the 2023 Athletics Carnival and then the Prep to Year 2 students returned to school to end off a fabulous day with Water Play. 

On Friday the children presented their Assembly item to the whole school community. They did such a beautiful job reading and singing. We shared information about the different ways to pray. We have been saying a prayer in the morning, afternoon and praying before meals. One of our favourite ways to pray is through song. We shared one of our favourite songs “This Little Light of Mine”. 

This week we also started the process of moving to the old Prep A classroom and are very excited to start Term 3 in our new Year 1 Classroom. Parents you are always welcome to come and see our new learning space. 

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very relaxing holiday with their family and friends and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.
