News from Years 5/6 - Senior Learning Hub
What a fantastic start to Term 4. Our Year 6 students were fortunate enough to start the term off at Camp Paterson making memories they will treasure a lifetime. Each student showed their strengths and some weaknesses as they were presented with many different challenges to overcome. As staff we walked away with smiles on our faces and proud of the people they have grown into.
While the Year 6’s were away, the Year 5 students took on the responsibilities of all leadership roles. They had to put the flags up, lead assembly and help out around the school where needed.
A number of our students from The Hub also had the opportunity to represent Weipa in a First Nations Netball Carnival in Cairns last Friday. All the kids from the cape played with grit but most of all had a great time. They learnt a lot about themselves and their team mates.
Swimming has kicked off again with our swimming carnival just around the corner. Students got in the pool with enthusiasm, like we didn’t even have a break. We are working on our strokes and stamina. Next week we need to remember our long sleeve shirts and pants for our safety swim session. Look out for the reminder email.
Our Year 5’s have been busy learning about Space and our Year 6’s learning to analyse song lyrics. This is a challenge but they are keen to learn more and get into our deep learning next week. More to come on these concepts next newsletter.
