Learning and Teaching
Learning & Teaching
What a wonderful term of learning we have had! Our students have been engaged in a range of fun and engaging learning experiences in their classrooms. They have enjoyed participating in our new music program with Mrs Turner and skipping lessons as part of their physical education lessons with Miss Libby.
NAPLAN
Parent reports for students in Year 3 and Year 5 are on their way to the school. They will be sent home early in Term 4.
STAY & PLAY
We have had a lot of families join our Stay and Play sessions each Friday in our Prep room. Stay and Play is only one of the ways we support the younger children in the wider Weipa community. If your children are aged between 0 and 5 years (before school age) then you are more than welcome to bring them along. Mrs Neil has a wide range of early learning experiences set up for each Stay & Play sessions that your little ones will love. There will be many Stay & Play sessions in Term 4 with dates to be released at the beginning of the term.
GET SET FOR PREP
Next term we will hold 3 Prep Transition mornings. While our pre-Preps join in our ‘Get Set For Prep Program’, parents are invited to enjoy morning tea, meet our teaching specialists, learn more about the school and what you can do to support your child to have a smooth transition into Prep.
‘Get Set For Prep’ dates are times are as follows:
- Thursday 13th October – 9am – 10:30am
- Thursday 20th October – 9am – 10:30am

It is not too late to book a school tour or enrolment interview with our principal. If you know anyone with a child who is ready for Prep next encourage them to come along and see what we have to offer.
SAFE ON SOCIAL WEBINAR
Last week Kirra from Safe on Social held a free webinar - Discord and Group Chat. If you were unable to attend the live webinar, the link for the recording is below. If you have the time we highly recommend watching.
Details about the webinar below:
After the recent news out of an elite school in Sydney, my inbox has been flooded with questions from schools and parents about social media, in particular Discord and Group chats, and the behaviours of students using this form of communication.
You will have your mind blown when you actually understand what is really happening in group chats. The need for connection – all of these issues that come along with that have hit home and many questions display worry and distress. Schools and parents need fast and reliable support and information. We are here to help.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Thank you to all families who booked a time to participate in our Term 3 Parent Teacher Conferences. These conferences are a great opportunity to discuss your child’s learning and set goals for Term 4. If you were unable to make a time, please contact your child’s teacher and set up a time that works for you. Thank you also to our staff who stayed back late to ensure all families had the opportunity to meet with the teacher.
