Athletics Carnival Term 2

Our results for the carnival were very close.  Every point matters, so every child participating in an event matters.  The House Spirit Award and random points awarded all contribute to the final point tally. Again, thanks to all who made our carnival a great success.

Points were tallied from Cross country and Track and Field events.   Congratulations to our age winners and runner up students.  These medals were presented at Assembly last Friday.  However all students were applauded for their participation and encouragement of others.

Thanks to Rachael Steele and Kim Wallace for putting together a great photo powerpoint of the day!

Athletics North Qld Visit

We were fortunate to have Rachel and Dane visit us on Wednesday to take Yr 2/3 and Yr 4/5/6 through the fundamental skills of running, jumping and throwing.   The students participated in a variety of skills and game challenges which are stepping stones for future skills.  We look forward to seeing them again with some exciting plans ahead for Athletics in Weipa.

Qld Bulls visit last week

Last week, players from the Qld Bulls in conjunction with Crimestoppers visited the students.  They talked about the importance of striving hard and setting goals.  Crimestoppers discussed safety awareness in Weipa and handed out a pretty good sample bag of goodies.  Some of our students went on to attend the clinic that afternoon and then play in the Saturday competition.

P ED SKILLS TERM 3

The focus for P-2 will be skipping. We will build endurance and fitness, learn tricks and use locomotor skills at the same time. They will also be improving throwing and catching skills in the form of different games weekly.

Yr 3-6 will also be skipping weekly. Their main focus will be catching, batting and fielding skills when playing team games like Throwball, T ball and softball. Working as a team to build trust in each other’s skills will be an important part of these games.

Yours in Sport, Libby Lange
