News from Year 3
What is up in year 3? Literally what is in the sky?
Do you know how day and night occur with the help of the Sun?
Year 3 have learnt in Science this term that the Sun is the centre of the solar system. Although it looks like the Sun is moving across the sky to create the sunrise and sunset – the isn’t moving at all! It’s the Earth that moves! The Earth orbits the Sun, and the Earth also rotates on its axis on a tilt. It takes a full 24 hours to complete a full rotation on the Earth axis. As the Earth rotates the side of the Earth that is facing the sun receives daylight while the side that is facing away from the Sun experiences night. Look at how year 3 can represent their knowledge as scientific annotated diagrams.
