Sunday’s Gospel Reading Luke 11:1-3 Jesus Teaches the Disciples to Pray
This Sunday the Gospel reading from the book of Luke, presents Jesus as a teacher, teaching the disciples how to pray. As Jesus taught on the mountainside; many people gathered to hear Him. Jesus taught that those who follow Him should never do good things just to call attention to themselves. The good things they do should be done in secret, just between them and God. God sees what we do in secret, and He will reward those things. It is also through this Scripture that we hear the words used in the traditional prayer, the Our Father also known as the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus reminds us that prayer is the time you spend being honest and real with God and we don’t need fancy elaborate words to speak with him. Jesus gives a perfect example of how to pray using the Lord’s Prayer.
Catholic Education Week Queensland
Next week Catholic Schools across Queensland will celebrate Catholic Education Week. The theme for this year is Communities of Faith Hope and Love. St Joseph’s will be celebrating the wonderful community we belong to Week 4. Please join us for Just Dance event on Thursday 4th August from 5:30pm.
On Friday 5th August at 9am families are invited to attend the Catholic Education Week Liturgy held in the Church. We will also be awarding the Spirit of St Joseph Awards. This award acknowledges a student from each class who best shows generous, loving service to others, in the manner of St. Joseph. Each recipient is chosen because of the way they live out the values of humility, justice and compassion in our school. We look forward to you joining us for these events.
