Year 5/6 news Senior Learning Hub

We have been busy being leaders in the Hub these past few weeks. Our Year 6 students with support from the Year 5 students, successfully lead our Cross Country Carnival. Each and every one of them gave their race a ‘red, hot go’ and then supported the rest of the students in their races. We saw students assisting those with their run by being by their side, cheering them on and even helping calm the nerves. It is a long way to run and our Seniors showed the St Joey’s Way all carnival. Thank you to our parent volunteers for helping us get over the line on the day. Kylie Argent, Paul Giradi and Mrs Tiffany Barber really helped push us to perform well.

The Year 6 student then continued their leadership journey by participating in their leadership retreat day and then their Induction Mass. We were fortunate enough that Fr Dariusz could be here to bless their badges as we officially welcomed them in as leaders. This is just the beginning of what we hope to be a successful year for our Year 6 students and their leadership within our school.

During our writing lessons our focus has been on creating engaging opening statements when creating persuasive texts. There has been much debate on which pet is better than others with many examples of why they believe that their chosen pet is truly the best. We have worked on making sure that we do include rhetorical questions which in turn gets the reader on our side.

Maths lessons have been all about 3D objects. Students have been given the challenge to design and build a 3D robot. They do have strict height requirements and how many different 3D objects should be included in their build. So far looking at the 2D sketches, students have shown a clear understanding of shape and I can’t wait for them to bring them to life next week.
