What’s new in Year 3? 

This term in HASS we are learning about Captain James Cook. The students have recently researched Captain Cook’s journey to Australia, first landing in Botany Bay and then being ship wreaked on the Great Barrier Reef and having to stop and repair the Endeavour in Cooktown. Our class has been learning about Captain Cook declaring Australia as ‘Terra Nullius’ (no-man’s/nobody’s land). We have formed some interesting opinions about why Captain Cook declared ‘Terra Nullius’ and how is affected Australia’s First Nation’s people.
