APRE News

Starry Starry Night

Last Friday evening the spirit of Christmas was alive at St Joseph’s as we came together for the Starry Starry Night evening. Each class was welcomed onto the stage to sing and dance alongside Josh Arnold from Small Town Culture. Josh and the classes performed with live music and created a beautiful atmosphere for all to enjoy.

Thank you to all the families for contributing to the Cent Sale through donating items for the class hampers. From the sale of tickets we raised $1005 that will be donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

A big thank you to Rio Tinto in particular Alex Colman and Luke Harvey along with Des, Brad Gear and Charles Di Bella for assisting with the sound, screen, and lighting. Thank you Matt Wallace for your technical equipment.

Thank you to Sodexo for catering and the P&F for organising a delicious dinner for everyone. In particular, thank you to P&F helpers Rachael, Sophie and Ava Steele, Aimee Robinson, Mel Scott, Alyce Haack, Nicky Perriman, Kylie and Stu Argent, Nicole Emerick and Jo and Ryan Abbott.

Thank you to all the staff for your work in preparing the children and with setting up and packing up on the evening.

Congratulations to Kelise from Year One who was the selected winner of a bike from the PCYC after her creative entry to promote bike and road safety. Thank you, Emma Wallis, and Warren Flegg from Weipa Police Station for your generous donation.

It was great to see so many families present at Starry Starry Night. We look forward to many more events together in 2022.

Senior Learning Hub

St Joseph’s is moving into an exciting space as we create our Senior Learning Hub, a place where Year Five and Six students work collaboratively in a range of environments as well as engage in personalised learning to address developmental, learning and transitional needs.

The Hub will include the students in Year Five and Six, and will be managed by four experienced teachers, who will team-teach and will plan together and with CNS consultants and the Diversity Team to address these students’ specific needs. The Senior Hub Coordinator will be Mrs. Michelle Gear and the lead teachers will be Ms Stacey Edmonds, Mrs. Melanie Turner and another teacher yet to be recruited. In addition to these experienced teachers, we will be partnering with Catholic High Schools in Cairns to provide our Senior Learning Hub with access to specialist teachers in the areas of Arts, Music and Languages.

Napranum Ranger Visit

Earlier in the year Napranum Rangers Sean and Cameron visited St Joseph's to teach the children about turtle conservation. We are lucky to have the Land and Sea Rangers return next week on Tuesday 23rd November. They have been working with the team from Wildlife and Threatened Species Operations and will deliver information to Year 3-6 about being Croc wise.

P.E next week

P.E lessons will take place on Tuesday 23rd November. Students can wear their sports uniform on that day for lessons. There will be no P.E lessons on Friday.

Farewell Assembly and Guard of Honor

Next Friday is the last day of school and we will say farewell to the Year Six students, staff and families leaving St Joseph’s. Please join us from 2pm for an assembly and guard of honour.

Principal Update

Please continue to keep Megan Pearce in your thoughts and prayers as she recovers to full health. We look forward to having her back as soon as she is well enough.

School Reports

Next week school reports will be sent home both electronically and in a hardcopy. There are many achievements to celebrate this Semester and we hope you take some time to be informed about your child’s progress. If there are any concerns or questions about your child’s results, please contact the school office or the teacher directly to speak with them.
