Year 5 news
The Year 5’s have been busy little bees these past two weeks. With so much happening in our school, we definitely have a lot to celebrate. Everyone had a blast at the Father’s Day Colour Run last Wednesday with so many of us going home covered in muddy, colourful fun clothes. If you know your child is missing a pair of runners, please let me know or ask them to check the lost property pile as we have at least half a dozen shoes that need to go back home.
We have been starting to put together our final feature article about the Gold Rush this past week in writing. The Year 5’s have to write about a major event of the Gold Rush with most choosing the Eureka Stockade. Using our emotive language we are then making the article as one sided as possible to persuade the reader that the event was terrible for a chosen group of people from this era. This will get completed in the coming days so keep an ear out for some insightful articles.
Maths has been all about division. The students are working on short division of a number up to 12 to divide by numbers up to 5 digits. Sometimes we have remainders and other times we don’t. What has helped the students is the hard work of remembering our Multiplication Facts by completing daily rapid recall activities. It has certainly made life easier when we try and work out our division algorithms.
Next week we will be presenting our dramas skits and our Minecraft Gold Rush worlds. The students have been working hard on both and are keen to show the class what they have achieved.
There will be no official homework this week but if students can continue reading and finish off their Minecraft Gold Rush worlds by Monday that would be appreciated.
