Prep News
Hello Prep Families,
The Preps have had an outstanding 2 weeks learning whilst participating in multiple exciting experiences and celebrating lots of special occasions at St Joseph’s.
In Maths this term, students have been showing their knowledge and understanding of statistics and measurement. Students have been learning about length, capacity and mass. We have been playing several games and engaging with learning experiences in rotation time.
In English we have been learning about and have started out assessment on Wombat Stew. Students will be making their own edible wombat stew and writing about it. These will come home on Friday afternoon. Our upcoming focus for InitiaLit is Phonics Set 9: wh and th and Tricky Words: what, where, want, some, come. A new tricky words booklet will come home next week with homework that has all the tricky words in it for the year. Writing is important so encouraging your student to not only read but write gives them a great advantage at school.
In Science, the preps were learning about different materials and what they are made of. They got to test a number of different materials to see if they changed when they got wet. Students really enjoyed this and later got to design an object they could make that would be waterproof, does not change when it is wet.
The Prep’s were extremely excited to have been celebrating Father’s Day last week with a wonderful liturgy and the colour run! What a fantastic way to celebrate all our outstanding fathers.
On Monday we had the NRL guys come and talk to us. They taught us to play some games and ran some drills. Prep loved having a run around the getting to learn some new footy skills, thanks guys!
Students have started swimming and are braving through the cold mornings to do some fantastic swimming and learning. Remember to pack a towel and spare clothes.
This Thursday is R U OK day, the students will do some learning about this in class in reference to talking about feelings and how to ask others if they are ok.
We have welcomed a new student into our class. All students have been very welcoming of Lola and made her feel very happy and at excited to be at St Joseph’s.
Kindest Regards,
Anneka and Summer
