News from the Principal - Megan Pearce

Dear Parents,

A very warm welcome to term two! It sounds like everyone had a great break and an enjoyable Easter. Our term is off to a flying start.  We have a busy and fun filled term of learning ahead of us. As usual there are many events planned for the term.

A special welcome to the new families and students who have just joined our St Joseph’s community. We are a very active but friendly school and I am sure it won’t be long before you have settled in.

ANZAC DAY: "We Will Remember Them"

On Wednesday afternoon we gathered as a whole school community to reflect on and honour the significance of ANZAC Day. Thank you to the Year 5/6 students who shared with us a very meaningful liturgy, which I hope your child was able to reflect on and share in some way yesterday. Congratulations to our students for the respectful way they conducted themselves during the ANZAC Day March and Dawn Service.

Assembly

Due to St Joseph’s Day being our big day of Celebration this week we will be having a very short assembly to present class awards this week.

Year 6 Retreat

This Monday the 29Th April our Year 6 students will participate in a Leadership Retreat. The retreat will be held at school and attended by Year 6 students, Fr Darious, Mr Mitchell, Mrs Saunders, Mrs Turner and myself. Our role will be to run activities which will be supporting the students to focus on developing qualities and traits that Jesus demonstrates in his leadership as a guide for aspiring leaders to follow.

Year 6 Leadership Induction Ceremony

All Year 6 students will be inducted as school leaders at the St Joseph Day Mass, 9am on Wednesday at St Joseph’s Church.

St Joseph’s Day

St Joseph’s Parish School Invites all school families, Parishioners and community members to attend our whole school St Joseph’s Day Mass at 9 am on Wednesday 1st May. St Joseph is our Patron Saint and this is our day to celebrate his life and values.

Year 6 Camp Meeting

All Year 6 parents are invited to attend a Camp Meeting to discuss Camp details for this year. The meeting will be held on Thursday afternoon at 5pm -5.30pm in the Year 6 Classroom.

Lunch Time Activities:

Thanks to our enthusiastic teachers who like to share their skills and interests we are pleased to be able to offer some interesting additional lunch time activities.

  • Thanks to Mrs Scikluna, Drama Club has been a huge success and will continue on Wednesdays.
  • STEM Club will be run by Mrs Edmonds and begins this term. It will be held in the Library on a Tuesday at Lunch time.
  • Art Club will also begin later in the term. Watch this space for more information.

Mothers’ Day Celebrations:

The P and F are holding a Mother’s Day Stall where children can purchase gifts for their Mums in readiness for Mothers’ Day on Sunday 14th May.

A Special Mother’s Day Assembly, will be held on Friday 10th May at 2.20pm and will be presented by our Prep students.

This year we will also celebrate our Mothers’ by holding a Mothers’ Day Movie Night. Bring a chair, beanbag or blanket and relax for the evening with your child. The event will start at 6.00pm and the movie will start at 6.30pm. Dinner packs (hotdog, popcorn and a slushy) will be available for $5 dollars. Next Monday 29th April students will vote on the choice of movie. A personalised invitation will be sent home later that day. Keep a close eye out for it. RSVP will be Monday 6th so we can organise catering. All families, especially Mothers and Grandmothers are invited to attend.

NAPLAN

In Week Four, our Year 3 and Year 5 students will sit their NAPLAN tests in Numeracy, Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar & Spelling. Students will complete their NAPLAN tests online using an iPad or Laptop computer. Our students have been very well prepared for their NAPLAN experience with Mrs Turner overseeing the preparation program.

Athletics Carnival

Our Athletics Carnival is set for Thursday 23rd of May and Friday 24th of May.  This is earlier in the term than usual due to the need to have all trials completed before the National Athletics Championships which are to be held in Darwin this year.

Enrolments NOW:
We are taking enrolment applications for Prep 2020 now. We are always in need of more new families to inquire and enrol so please spread the word about our wonderful school and encourage friends and neighbours to join our St Joseph’s community.

Siblings of existing students receive automatic placement into the Prep program, however we still require an application for enrolment form to be handed in. Please ensure that you have collected your enrolment package from the office. Please complete and return. I am looking forward to meeting our siblings at their Prep Interview. These interviews will take place at the end of Term 2.

thank you,

Megan
